Biostatistics Foundations

Statistics let us summarize data, estimate effect size, and judge whether results apply to our patients.

The first question in any analysis is: what TYPE of data is this? Data type drives which statistical test is valid.

Data types

Nominal = unordered labels (alive/dead). Ordinal = ranked, uneven gaps (NYHA I-IV). Continuous = interval (Fahrenheit) or ratio (weight, has a true zero).
