Managing Menopausal Symptoms
Systemic hormone therapy is the most effective treatment for moderate-to-severe vasomotor symptoms of menopause.
Give estrogen plus a progestogen when a uterus is present (to protect the endometrium); estrogen alone after hysterectomy. Use the lowest effective dose for the shortest appropriate time.
Add a progestogen
Unopposed estrogen with an intact uterus raises endometrial cancer risk - always add a progestogen.
