Women's Health: An Overview

This chapter spans premenstrual syndrome (PMS) and premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD), polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS), drug use in pregnancy, drug excretion in breast milk, urinary incontinence, menopause, and osteoporosis.

Women's health on the licensing exam is a survey of distinct conditions across the lifespan. The highest-yield themes are: which drugs are safe vs teratogenic in pregnancy, the FDA pregnancy categories, principles of drug transfer into breast milk, and the drug classes for incontinence and osteoporosis.

How to Use This Chapter

Six zones group related topics: (1) PMS/PMDD and PCOS, (2) pregnancy and teratogens, (3) more teratogens and late-pregnancy effects, (4) breast milk, (5) incontinence, (6) menopause and osteoporosis. Master the pregnancy categories and the osteoblast-vs-osteoclast drug logic first.
