Chapter 14 - Drug Information Resources
Getting the right answer from the right source
What is drug information?
Drug information is current, critically examined, relevant data about drugs and drug use in a given patient or situation. Current means using the most recent sources. Critically examined means using more than one source when appropriate, determining the extent of agreement between sources (using judgment if they disagree), and assessing plausibility based on clinical circumstances. Relevant means the information applies directly to the circumstances - patient parameters, therapeutic objectives, and alternative approaches.
Three qualities define good drug information: CURRENT (most recent sources), CRITICALLY EXAMINED (cross-checked, plausible), and RELEVANT (fits this patient/situation).
π βDrug information = current, critically examined, relevant data about drugs. Current (recent), critically examined (multiple sources, agreement, plausibility), relevant (applies to the situation).β
